Frequently asked questions.
How do I get started?
First, I want to acknowledge that it takes tremendous courage and bravery to take the first step toward living a more authentic and fulfilling life.
The first step is to contact Aspire Counseling Associates and set up a 15-minute, free Zoom consultation. During your consultation, we can discuss what brought you into therapy and what you hope to address in therapy; and ask questions about the services Aspire provides. We will explain our preliminary thoughts on how therapy may be helpful, and answer questions you might have before starting the process. We will have the opportunity to get to know each other to see if we are a good fit. If you choose to proceed, we can set up a first intake appointment.
What should I expect after the consultation session?
The intake process consists of completing a standard intake questionnaire and discussing your current stressors and past events that have led you to therapy. During the intake session, we will discuss your immediate needs to develop a treatment plan by identifying obtainable goals. In working together, we will be exploring historical patterns and identifying unhealthy thoughts and behaviors that keep you stuck as well as strengthening your skills to handle and change outside stressors; we will decrease the intensity of symptoms and negative emotional states; improve communication with others and develop healthy interpersonal behaviors; help develop and cultivate feelings of self-worth and self-acceptance.
How long is a therapy session?
Standard sessions are 55 minutes, EMDR sessions may range from 60-90 minutes.
Do you accept insurance?
Aspire Counseling Associates is out of network with insurance companies. Please contact your insurance company to determine your out-of-network benefits and Aspire Counseling Associates will provide a superbill after each session and where you can submit the superbill to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Do you see clients virtually or in person?
Aspire Counseling Associates offers virtual psychotherapy to clients residing in New York and New Jersey. Studies have demonstrated that virtual psychotherapy can be as effective as in-person psychotherapy. In-person sessions can be arranged per request.
What is the cancellation policy?
If a client does not attend a scheduled appointment, or if a client cancels an appointment with less than 48 hours notice, the client is responsible for the full session fee. Please note, that your insurance will not cover no-show or cancellation fees. If a client needs to cancel or reschedule an appointment, and does so more than 48 hours in advance, all efforts will be made to reschedule an appointment for another day/time within the same week.
